WOW atelier is focused on contextualizing design at every scale. In the case of the Admiration table, WOW atelier had designed the dwelling and all the interior design elements. Because the project is located in Park City, Utah, a climate similar to areas throughout Scandinavian countries, coupled with the client’s desire to have a warm, comfortable, and modernist space, inspiration was drawn from key designers from a multitude of Scandinavian countries. The dining table was to become the heart of the space where breakfast, lunch, and dinner would be served, along with activities like board games, checking emails, and sharing a glass of wine. So WOW looked to the work of Poul Kjærholm, a Danish designer, and specifically the PK61 coffee table. The table is subtle in its presence but rich in details, all while acting as a sturdy everyday object. It was the perfect place to start the design process, hence the “Inspiration table”.
In typical Scandinavian fashion, most of Poul Kjærholm (1929-1980) contemporaries opted for wood as their primary furniture construction material. Kjærholm chose steel as his primary but always combined it with other materials like wood, leather, or marble. Our table was designed with this in mind, allowing the steel to stand out and show the structure, but all the areas you interact with are smooth, solid maple finish.
