WOW atelier - Misissippi State Lecture - accomidations

The Town of Starkville is a beautiful place that is home to Mississippi State(founded in 1878), So there are beautiful historical buildings both on and off campus in town.  Jake made arrangements with the caretaker of this historic mansion for us to stay here, what an unbelievably beautiful house, you could feel the history in the walls.

WOW atelier Mississippi State Lecture -on campus at Mississippi State

Arrived on the beautiful campus of Mississippi State to for our Lecture in the College of Architecture + Design.  As we walked around the campus we found this amazing space called the “Chapel of Memories” that was built from the bricks of the old burned down Main Dormitory that was destroyed in 1959.  The inside was equally as amazing!

Following the lecture there was a nice reception put on by Michael Berk, the School of Architecture Director, and the rest of the faculty.  It was nice to get to know the talented group they have assembled.  It’s a top 25 Architecture program, and after spending time with everyone it was easy to see why!

It was cool to see how everyone reacted to the wall, everyone loved it, adults and kids!  Tons of questions about what does it mean, how did you learn how to do this, why are you painting an ant?

Jake, Benjamin and Principal Bourne.  As you can see Principal Bourne thought some of what Benjamin had to say was crazy!  But at the end of three weeks there was no two ways about it they loved us being there, and loved what had happened!

Some nights were pretty late, here is Ben painting late into the night with the sound of the craziest fans humming along you have ever heard in your life.

WOW atelier Mississippi State Lecture -after the lecture 2

After the event Jake sent along these images of the kids lining up to have their photo taken in front of the Queen Yellow Jacket.

WOW atelier Mississippi State Lecture -community event

Seeing this image was awesome!!  Jake told us they held a ton of community events here, and while we believed him, we had no idea it would be packed like this.   The kids and parents of Armstrong Middle School love their new wall, and as you can see in this photo, it makes for a sweet backdrop for the band!

Thank You Jake for all of your hospitality and inviting us to not only Lecture in the beautiful town of Starkville, but allowing us to meet the people in this town in a real and authentic way.  We sincerely hope they enjoy the Mural as much as we enjoyed meeting all of them!
